It wasn’t until Reason realized that FL Studio had become WIDELY popular, one major reason being PATTERN based sequencing, that it decided to follow Imageline’s example and finally include their “blocks” sequencing option, as well as audio recording.įL Studio is also SO easy to use, that as we can see, even middle school kids can learn the basics of the program in a matter of weeks and start cranking out some SERIOUS sounds. Of course, pattern based sequencing SHOULD have been a “no brainer” included from day one, since the MPC units have ALWAYS featured pattern based sequencing. Fast forward a few years and Reason was STILL playing catch up, as it didn’t implement “block” pattern sequencing until version 5. This was back in 2004 (Reason was at version 3). What’s kept me such a long time user is that FL Studio has always seemed to be at least one step ahead of the other major DAWS, either, if not in terms of capability, then in terms of user friendliness.įor example, I remember before I started using FL Studio, when I was still deciding which DAW I wanted to settle on, Reason did NOT allow ANY audio recording and REQUIRED a HARDWARE midi controller to trigger sounds. I’ve been using FL Studio since version 6.
